BIOGRAPHY
Laura Manolache (b.1959, Bucharest) – composer, musicologist, professor.
She studied at the National Music University of Bucharest (NMUB) – musicology with Viorel Cosma (1978-1982) and composition with Myriam Marbe (1992), Tiberiu Olah (1994-2001) and Doina Rotaru (2001-2002).
1991 – “Summer courses of New Music” in Darmstadt (1990)
Three DAAD research scholarships – at the Musicology Institute of the Köln University (1992-1993) and the Musicology Institute of the Osnabrück University (1999, 2004)
“M. Elias” scholarship offered by the Romanian Academy – at the Musicology Institute of Vienna University (1996).
1991-2916 – Didactic activity at the NMUB; a Musicology PhD in 1995.
2006-2012 she was also general director of the “George Enescu” National Museum.
Member of the Composers and Musicologists Union of Bucharest (since 1986); member of the Romanian Department of the International Society for New Music (since 1991); member of ARFA (Association of Romanian Women in Arts – since 1991) etc.
Her creation, that contains instrumental-chamber and vocal opuses, concerto and symphonic works, was awarded the Second Prize in the NMUB Contest of Chamber Music (String Quartet – 1998) and The Great Prize of the International Contest of Composition “Aperto” (the Trio “Priviri”/”Regards” for violin, clarinet and piano – 1999). Some of her works were recorded by the Romanian Broadcasting Society, edited by “Editura Muzicală”- Bucharest and by Müller & Schade Publishing House – Bern; the most was performed in concerts and festivals both in Romania, and in many others European and American countries, also in Japan.
Her musicological writing edited by the Musical Publishing House includes titles as: George Enescu. Interviews (Ist edition in 2 vol. 1988, 1991 – The UCMR Prize / 1988; II. edition 2005), Twilight of Tonal Ages (2001 – Prize of Romanian Academy), Six Portraits of Romanian Composers (2002), Theodor Rogalski (2006) etc.
